The Stern' has no separate "city" and "nature" modes: its design, with three wheels, the motor built into the rear wheel and the battery in a backpack, stays the same whether you ride on asphalt, a forest trail or sand.
The guide
IP67 waterproofing covers a downpour in town just as well as a puddle in the forest. What changes from one terrain to another is the accessories fitted: the Snow Kit (its track) for snow and very soft sand; the rest of the time, the standard wheels are enough on roads and tracks.
A standard electric mountainboard is built for pure off-road riding: four wheels and a centre of gravity designed for downhill. The Stern' starts from somewhere else. An early four-wheel prototype had disappointed Édouard, one of the two founders. By combining that concept with the idea of an electric unicycle, Édouard Aubert and Adrien Ladan created the three-wheel version that became the brand's signature: a board that moves from one terrain to another.
The brushless motor in the rear wheel and IP67 waterproofing are common to all 8 set-ups. Only the power (1000 W or 2000 W) and the battery (integrated, or a 15, 20 or 25 Ah backpack battery) change.
The 8 set-ups differ by motor and battery, not by terrain. In 1000 W with a 15 Ah battery, the Stern' suits regular rides on mixed terrain. In 2000 W with a 25 Ah battery, it is aimed at long rides and hilly ground.
