Is the Stern' waterproof?
- Yes, it is even submersible. The integrated battery is protected against rain, splashes and puddles.
Does the Stern' need much maintenance?
- No, it is very simple: mostly a rinse with a hose. From time to time, check a few screws and put some WD-40 in the bearings and the suspension. That's all.
Does the Stern' comply with French regulations?
- Yes, straight out of the box: front light, red rear light, reflectors, horn, and speed limited to 25 km/h. Legal category: EDPM (engin de déplacement personnel motorisé), the French category for powered personal transporters.
Does it need insurance, and how much does it cost?
- Yes, like any electric vehicle: between €3 and €4 per month. Insurers now know the Stern', and we can provide you with a certificate of conformity to send them.
What are its main technical specifications?
- Three wheels, a 1000 W or 2000 W brushless motor built into the rear wheel, IP67 waterproofing (the board is submersible) and a 14-ply wooden deck in bamboo and Canadian maple. The Stern' weighs 17 kg without the backpack battery (20 kg for the Stern' Urban, integrated battery included), takes up to 120 kg and can be adjusted from the app.
What is the difference between the 1000 W and the 2000 W motor?
- The 1000 W is enough in town and on flat ground, for everyday journeys. The 2000 W climbs gradients of up to 35%: it is better suited to riders over 90 kg and to those who want maximum power. In both cases, the brushless motor is built into the rear wheel. It all depends on your terrain: mostly city, or mostly off-road.
What is carving?
- It means turning by tilting the board, as on a snowboard: long, fluid curves and a real feeling of gliding. With its three wheels, the Stern' carves on every terrain, even on tarmac. The stance is natural and quick to find.
What terrain can you ride on?
- Almost anywhere, thanks to the three wheels and IP67 waterproofing: in town (tarmac, cobbles), at the beach (sand, salt water), in the forest (muddy paths, streams), in the mountains (rocky ground, gradients up to 35% with the 2000 W motor) and on snow with the Snow Kit (track and skis). Enough to ride all year round.
Is the Stern' reliable in tough conditions?
- Yes. The Stern' has been developed and tested since 2019. Its technical choices (three wheels, battery in a backpack, IP67 waterproofing) are aimed at durability and minimal maintenance. Rental companies and professionals use it intensively, in all conditions, over thousands of kilometres.
Can the Stern' be adapted to your needs?
- Yes. You choose the battery according to the range you want, then accessories according to your terrain: track and skis for snow, track only for very soft sand. In the app, you adjust your board, with speed limited to 25 km/h for riding on public roads.
