What is an electric skateboard

An electric skateboard, in practice

On the Stern', the motor is in the rear wheel. The battery is either integrated into the board or carried in a backpack. The board is IP67 waterproof: it copes with rain, sand and being hosed down. Range goes from 20 km (integrated battery) to 100 km (25 Ah backpack battery). The gradient you can climb depends on the motor and on your weight.

No need to push with your foot: you accelerate and brake with the remote control. That is why you get the hang of the Stern' in a few minutes, even if you have never skateboarded, before moving on to more demanding terrain.

How to choose an electric skateboard

Three practical criteria guide the choice: motor power (1000 W or 2000 W depending on the range), battery type (integrated for light urban use, removable backpack for range and off-road riding), and the terrain you have in mind (tarmac, trail, sand, snow). A daily 10 km commute does not call for the same configuration as a 60 km ride in the forest.

An electric skateboard for everyone, not just for riders

Three wheels, motor in the rear wheel: this choice comes from a first four-wheel prototype that disappointed its creators (see Our story). It aims for more stability at low speed. Learning stays gradual: balance, braking and turning are worked on step by step, first on flat ground, then on trails or sand.
